Many people do not know when to change their air filters and many more do not know how to change their air filters. If you are one of those people don’t worry. The Air Doctor has the answers!
The return filters help keep dust, dirt, and other particles in the air out of the HVAC unit and from cycling back into the air. A clogged filter cannot pull in air like it should causing your unit to work harder.
It is typically recommended to change your return filters every month. The Air Doctor suggests at least checking the filters monthly to see if they need changing. Depending on the filter type and environment, some people will need to change their filters more or less often than others.
There are two easy ways to know if your air filters need changing. First, look at the return grill covering the filter to see if it is dusty. Second, look at the filter. If the filter is covered in dust and dirt and you cannot see through it, then it’s time for a new filter.
Some homes have more than one return and they are usually located in the ceiling or walls. They may look like a variation of these.
Forced air systems have filters in the central unit. Filters can be in your air handler, heat pump, or furnace.
